NIST SP 800-53: The controls your client wants to see
Your customer requires controls under NIST SP 800-53? Complass guides you from categorisation through the baseline to assessment and POA&M, with evidence from ISO 27001, NIS2 or NIST CSF.
NIST Special Publication 800-53 is the catalogue of security and privacy controls of the US National Institute of Standards and Technology. Revision 5 contains 20 families with 300 controls and 714 enhancements (release 5.2.0). The SP 800-53B baselines preselect controls by the protection needs of the system: Low, Moderate and High, plus the privacy baseline. The catalogue is mandatory for US federal agencies and usually reaches companies through contracts and programmes. There is no certificate.
Complass is not affiliated with NIST. The English wording of the controls is taken from NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 and SP 800-53B, freely usable works of the US federal government.

Does it apply to me?
SP 800-53 concerns companies that operate or develop systems for US agencies, offer cloud services to the US public sector or whose international customers and parent groups measure their security against the NIST catalogue.
Many controls overlap with ISO 27001, NIS2 and the NIST CSF. What you have already evidenced there you reuse through the shared controls.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an SP 800-53 certificate?+
No. What is assessed is the implementation of the controls for a specific system; the responsible body decides on its operation. Complass prepares the assessment; no certificate results.
Which baseline do we need?+
It follows from the categorisation of your system by potential impact (Low, Moderate, High) or from your contract. The privacy baseline applies in addition when the system processes personal data.
We already work to ISO 27001. Do we have to record everything again?+
No. Through the shared controls, Complass suggests adopting assessments and evidence. You check each suggestion on its merits before confirming it.
